AMU Alumni Association of Greater Chicago felicitates JMI VC during Sir Syed Day 2021 celebration

New Delhi. Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar has been felicitated by the AMU Alumni Association of Greater Chicago, USA for her ‘Dedication and Commitment to Excellence in Education’ during Sir Syed Day 2021 function organised online by the association. Prof. Akhtar was the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker of the celebration where film and theatre actor Saleem Shah and association office bearers Dr Zafeer Ahmad, Dr. Zeba Siddiqui and Mr. Ajmal Sufiyan among others were present online. 17th October is celebrated as Sir Syed Day by AMU alumni with great gusto across the world.
Starting her address with a popular couplet of Allama Iqbal which speaks volumes about Sir Syed’s personality and contributions Prof. Akhtar said Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was one of the legendary figures in the annals of the world history. “The very name of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan conjures up the image of an enlightened citizen of India, a sensitive soul, a visionary, a pragmatic social and educational reformer and a great boon to the Indian society in general and to the Muslim community in particular”, she said.
During her address the Vice Chancellor highlighted various aspects of Sir Syed’s towering personality and said that he wished that education must train the people to adjust themselves to the changing needs of time for a better socio-economic, educational and cultural advancement.
Actor Saleem Shah, donning the attire of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, enthralled the participants through his performance in which he narrated the interesting saga of Sir Syed’s struggle & sacrifices and his message for students & teachers.
A film on famous Indian American author, educator, poet and AMU alumnus Dr Abdullah Ghazi was screened during the function. He has written more than 140 Islamic educational textbooks for children. He was also the executive director of IQRA’ International Educational Foundation.
