CCRUM studying potential anticancer drugs

 

New Delhi,: Cancer is a major health problem worldwide, causing a large number of deaths. Therefore, there is a need to bring progress in research and discoveries on cancer. Considering this, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India accords priority to research on Unani medical interventions for the management of cancers.

 

Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM informed that presently the CCRUM in collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and Interactive Research School for Health Affairs, Pune, Maharashtra is conducting studies on ‘Evaluation of Aftimoon (Cuscuta reflexa Roxb.) plant and its seeds on different human cancer (Saratan) cell lines’, ‘Delineating the anti-cancer potential and the mechanism of action of Unani medicinal formulation Itrifal-e-Aftimoon in chronic myelogenous leukemia’ and ‘Phytochemical standardization and evaluation of anti-cancer and immune-modulatory activity of Unani formulation  Itrifal Ghudadi’.

 

The CCRUM has recently completed a study entitled ‘Evaluation of anticancer potential of a Unani pharmacopoeial formulation Dawā’ al-Kurkum against human liver cancer cells’ in collaboration with Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
