CCRUM organizes lecture on drug standardization

 

New Delhi, : The Drug Standardisation Research Unit (DSRU), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India organized today a guest lecture on ‘Advanced Analytical Methods in Drug Standardisation’ at Ayush Auditorium, Janakpuri, New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest of the event Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM informed that the objective of drug standardization programme of CCRUM is to develop pharmacopoeial standards for single and compound Unani drugs for incorporation in the Unani Pharmacopoeia of India and National Formulary of Unani Medicine. He further said that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for methods of preparation of quality medicines and pharmacopoeial standards are developed under this program.

Participating as the guest of honour, Dr. SubhashKaushik, Director General, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) said that standardization of drug means confirmation of its identity and determination of its quality and purity. He further said that the quality of herbal drugs is the sum of all factors, which contribute directly or indirectly to the safety, effectiveness, and acceptability of the product.

Dr. Sayeed Ahmad, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry,School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, JamiaHamdard, New Delhi delivered a comprehensive guest lecture on advanced analytical methods for standardization and quality control of herbal drugs. He emphasized that thephysico-chemical standards are of great significance in assuring the quality, authenticity as well as purity and thereby efficacy of the drug.

Earlier, Dr. GhazalaJaved, Incharge, DSRU and Research Officer (Unani) Scientist-IV, CCRUM delivered introductory remarks and welcomed the guests. She highlighted that the Drug Standardisation is one of the priority area of the CCRUM.

Dr. NaheedParveen, Assistant Director (Unani), Shri K. K. Sapra, Assistant Director (Administration), CCRUM and Incharges as well as officers of CCRUM institutes in the National Capital Region namely Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Drug Standardization Research Institute, Hakim Ajmal Khan Institute for Literary and Historical Research in Unani Medicine participated in the programme. Officers from the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy were also present.
