New Delhi,: Unani Medicine which focuses on prevention through lifestyle modification, dietary management, prophylactic interventions and simple remedies based on presentation of the symptoms can play significant role in combating post COVID complications, said Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia here in New Delhi today.
She was delivering her presidential address during the National Seminar on the Role of Unani Medicine in Post Covid-19 Conditions organized by Hakim Ajmal Khan Institute for Literary and Historical Research in Unani Medicine (HAKILHRUM), a peripheral institute of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
She added that the CCRUM has done tremendous works in the area of developing new drugs as well as validating traditional Unani therapies. She further said that the CCRUM has been making very visible and necessary modern changes at the CCRUM under the leadership of present Director General, Prof. Asim Ali Khan. She applauded the work of HAKILHARUM, which is located in the premises of Jamia Millia Islamia, in the field of literary and historical research, translation of classical texts of Unani Medicine and World Health Organization projects.
Addressing the seminar, Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM said that the CCRUM played a significant role during COVID-19 and Unani Medicine has much potential to address post-COVID complications as well. He further said that during the past few years the CCRUM has expanded its collaborations at the national and international levels and contributed significantly in the WHO projects on the development of benchmark documents on practice and training of Unani Medicine. He expressed his gratitude to Jamia Millia Islamia and Prof. Najma Akhtar for their support to the CCRUM’s literary institute located in the Jamia campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohammad Khalid, Assistant Drug Controller, Directorate of Ayush, Delhi suggested for increased collaborations between the CCRUM and Jamia Millia Islamia in the promotion and development of Unani Medicine.
Prof. Nazim Hussain Al-Jafri, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia also graced the inaugural function which concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mohammad Fazil, Incharge, HAKILHRUM, New Delhi.
In the two technical sessions of the seminar, Dr. Merajul Haque, HAKILHRUM, Prof. Mohammad Faisal, Jamia Millia Islamia, Dr. Bilal Ahmad, HAKILHRUM, Dr. Sherin Zafar, Jamia Hamdard, Dr. Ahmad Sayeed, HAKILHRUM, Dr. Sadia Nikhat, Jamia Hamdard and Dr. Sohrab Ahmad Khan, Jamia Hamdard delivered their presentations on different aspects of the seminar theme. The first session was chaired by Prof. Sanjay Singh, Jamia Millia Islamia and Prof. S. M. Arif Zaidi, Jamia Hamdard and co-chaired by Dr. Neelam Quddusi and Dr. Merajul Haque, HAKILHRUM, while the second session was chaired by Prof. Syed Akhtar Hussain, Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Mohammad Idris, A & U Tibbia College and Dr. Mohammad Khalid, Directorate of Ayush, Delhi and co-chaired by Dr. Azma and Dr. Usama Akram, HAKILHRUM, New Delhi.
