Agra | The Imam of Nehar Wali Masjid, Muhammad Iqbal, informed people about the Islamic calendar in today’s Friday sermon. He said that in a few days we will enter the new year 1446 Hijri of the Islamic calendar, InShaAllah. Do we know anything about the Islamic calendar? Remember, the nation that does not remember its history, history also forgets it. Many of our brothers know the first month of the Islamic calendar, Muharram, because of a particular incident and do not consider this month good. So, they should know that ever since Allah created the world, there have been four months that are ‛Muhtaram’ (respected). Remember these four months – Zul-Qa’dah, Zul-Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab. It is mentioned in Surah Tauba, Ayah 36, and Bukhari Hadith number 4662, “Since Allah created the world, there have been four ‛Muhtaram’ months.” Giving importance to them because of a particular incident is due to our lack of knowledge. On the first day of Muharram, a great companion was martyred. How many people know this? Yes, our second Khaleefa, Hazrat Umar Farooq (R.A.), was martyred on the first day of Muharram. We do not know this. We only remember the tenth day. Servants of Allah! Remember your history and teach it to your children. We have limited ourselves to the moon sightings of Ramadan and Eid, while arrangements are made to see the moon every month, but we are not interested. If there is any issue regarding the lunar date, we go around asking others. We do not know the names of the Islamic months, nor do we keep track of the dates. Who will do this work? Remember it yourself and teach it to your home. This is also an important part. May Allah grant us the ability to do this. Aameen.
