New Delhi,Alliance for Economic and Educational Development of the Underprivileged (AEEDU) organised its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a Stakeholders’ Meet at the C.D. Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Centre. The event brought together stakeholders, donors, and esteemed personalities dedicated to empowering underprivileged sections of society through education, research, skill development, and entrepreneurship.
The AGM commenced at 10:45 AM with a warm welcome from CEO Syed Mahmood Akhter. Dr. S. Y. Quraishi, President of AEEDU, delivered the inaugural address, reflecting on the organization’s accomplishments and outlining future objectives. Dr. Quraishi highlighted AEEDU’s pivotal role in fostering education and skill-building opportunities and acknowledged the financial constraints under which the organization is functioning. He also emphasized AEEDU’s commitment to managing study centres across India despite these challenges. Furthermore, Dr. Quraishi shared promising developments, including generous donations such as 12 laptops from the Dawoodi Bohra community, pledges of support from Rotary Club, and an offer of 100 computers and laptops from IILM University. Additionally, he revealed the establishment of a ₹15 lakh corpus, contributed by the Dawoodi Bohra community, and made a heartfelt appeal to members and stakeholders to contribute towards AEEDU’s minimum monthly recurrent costs of ₹4 lakhs.
Mr. Saeed Shervani, Treasurer, AEEDU presented the Annual Accounts, duly audited by the CA Mr Sudir Gupta. The treasurer reported that AEEDU had managed to recover a ₹19 lakh deficit from the previous financial year. The organization currently holds ₹2 lakh in its account. Mr. Gupta, AEEDU’s Chartered Accountant, was there on dais to deal with the queries from participants in this regard. The general body unanimously approved the accounts along with the minutes of the previous AGM held in December 2023.
The AGM also empowered the Founder Members to reconstitute the Governing Body. This strategic move was aimed at ensuring stability and continuity. Additionally, the reappointment of AEEDU’s auditors was endorsed by the members.
Prominent voices at the AGM included Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, who praised AEEDU’s efforts and requested the acting president to continue in his role. Shahid Siddiqui stressed the need to reorient AEEDU’s activities to solidify its position as a facilitator among nonprofit organizations. The AGM Concluded with the vote of thanks.
The Stakeholders’ Meet commenced at 12:00 PM, attracting a broader audience and featuring an impressive lineup of speakers and presentations. Dr. Quraishi welcomed participants once again, emphasizing AEEDU’s critical contributions to improving education and skill development outcomes for underprivileged communities.
This was followed by an engaging address by CEO Syed Mahmood Akhter, who showcased visuals of AEEDU’s Common Study Centres, demonstrating their positive impacts on learning outcomes for underprivileged children.
Prominent speakers shared their experiences and insights. Mamoon Akhter narrated his transformative journey in Tikia Para, Kolkata, where he grew many schools starting with 6 students to 6,000 at present. Professor Furqan Qamar offered valuable suggestions to enhance AEEDU’s efforts, while Iqra Quraishi proposed establishing Personality Development Centres across India and expressed her willingness to contribute on a voluntary basis.
Other speakers included Mufaddal Shakir, representing the Dawoodi Bohra community, who praised AEEDU’s initiatives and extended his blessings, and Dr. Raihan Akhtar, who shared the successful completion of a ₹10 crore project in his hometown, Jaunpur. Mr. Samar Alam discussed the establishment of two Common Study Centres under AEEDU.
It was further enriched by speeches from Mr. Asif Habib, Mr. Himanshu Gupta, Ms. Huma Khan, Mr. Ameer Ahmad, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Pran, and several others. They all commended AEEDU’s impactful work and shared valuable suggestions to enhance its initiatives.
The event featured the release of two significant research data inventory and Entrepreneurship Module. Prof. B. S. Butola, AEEDU’s Research In-Charge, launched a research report documenting the organization’s impact and future strategies, and highlighted the paucity of data including census which is adversely impacting the research outcomes. Prof. Asiya Chaudhary from AMU introduced an Entrepreneurship Module named “BEST” aimed at fostering self-reliance among stakeholders and unemployed youth.
A heartwarming segment of the event involved children from AEEDU’s Common Study Centres, who were invited on stage to share their experiences. They expressed gratitude for the support they received from AEEDU in enhancing their educational skill. Teachers, including Mr. Mohd. Amaan Hussain and Ms. Muskan appointed by AEEDU to teach in the Common Study Centres, presented the remarkable progress being made at the centres.
