St. John’s College celebrated its 173rd Foundation Day with great enthusiasm

Agra. St. John’s College, Agra celebrated its 173rd Foundation Day with great enthusiasm in the main auditorium of the college. The chief guest of this ceremony was The Most Rev. Bijay Kumar Nayak, Bishop Agra Diocese and Chairman of the Governing Body of the College. Dr. Avinash Chand, Mr. Ashish Habil, Rev. Harold Amitabh, Rev. NK Robinson, Rev. Akash Paul, Principal Prof. SP Singh, Mrs. Shashi Singh Acharya of the college were present in the program.

Bishop Nayak said in his address that this college is running on very old traditions and ideals and in future also it will set an example of new research, research and keeping up with the times. The report of the academic year 2023-24 of the college was presented, which has a detailed description of the achievements of teachers and students. The annual magazine of the college “Shabd” was also released. The Botany Department also released its magazine “Seed”. The program was organized by the Special Event Committee of the college and the program was conducted by Prof. Vinni Jain. Prof. D.S. Sharma, Prof. Suneet Silas, Prof. Rajiv Philip, Prof. Sanjay Jain, Prof. Vandana Patankar, Prof. Sujan Varshis, Prof. J. Andrew, Prof. Manoj Paul, Prof. S.G. Singh, Prof. Lizzie Mary Thomas, Dr. Solan Sahay, Dr. Rachita Sharma and other teachers and non-teaching staff were present in the program.

It is worth mentioning that the college was established in 1850. In its glorious history of 174 years, the college has been known for academic excellence. The first principal of the college was Bishop Valpy French, a renowned scholar of Oxford University. The new building of the college was inaugurated in 1914 by the Governor General of India, Lord Harding. When Agra University was established in 1927, the Principal of the college, Professor A.W. Davis, became the first Vice Chancellor of Agra University.

The college has continuously contributed in the field of research and has organized national and international seminars in almost every department. The college also emphasizes on placement and training of students. St. John’s College is constantly engaged in serving the nation and playing a meaningful role in the development of human resources.
