Aligarh. The Times of Taj exposed the process of the selection committee to be held on Dec 23, 2024 in the Department of Philosophy in AMU.
According to sources representations were made claiming the illegality of the holding of the selection committee and charges of manipulations were flying around. AMU administration at the last moment decided to postpone the selection committee and accordingly issued an office memo of postponement. In the meantime candidates arrived for interviews and are highly disappointed that the AMU administration should have taken this kind of decision much earlier to prevent inconvenience and monetary loss to the candidates, who feel that they have been made to appear as fools. They complain that it’s not only inconvenience but that some of them had to take leave from their parent institutions to attend the now postponed selection committee.
There were representations against the selection committee of the Department of Philosophy on the ground that advertisement and the panel of experts both have expired and therefore no selection committee can be convened, apart from the claims of illegalities and efforts to manipulate the selection committee to favour some candidates. The decision of the selection committee is a forgone conclusion claim some of the candidate. The postponement has been delayed clearly reflects something fishy going on, said some of the candidates.
The office memo of postponement gives no reason for the postponement & only states that the selection committee will be convened latter and its date will be notified separately. It also advised the candidates to keep visiting AMU website regularly. The candidates were eager to learn of the reasons for postponement.
According to the reliable sources the said controversy arose on two counts, first that the advertisement was more than two years old and therefore the posts are required to be re-advertised; and the second that in a similar manner the panel of experts have also expired, as it was drawn up in 2020, four years ago. However, now the postponement implies that despite the life of the advertisement and panel both having expired the university is adamant on holding the selection committee.
Earlier in this regard MIC PRO Professor Asim Siddique said that the life of an advertisement starts when it is published, he also said that the life of advertisement is only two years but in special cases it can be extended for six months. However, there is no reason for treating philosophy as a special case is mentioned. Anyhow there are more than 50 posts for which these advertisements were issued and selection committees have been held or are postulated to be held. The campus is asking how can 50 post be of a special nature that the expiry of the panel is ignored. The people on the campus feel that there is some big manipulation involved, reflected by the adamancy of the university in holding the selection committee, knowing very well that the selection committees cannot be held against these advertisements. The feeling is also that the manner in which the selection committee is postponed implies that the despite the expiry of the advertisement the selection committees are going to be held unabated.
While talking to the AMU PRO Umar Peerzada with regard to postponement of the selection committee of the Department of Philosophy in AMU told the reporter that he has no such information and in this regard answers will be provided later.
