Agra | The Imam of Masjid Nehar wali, Muhammad Iqbal, addressed a topic in today’s Friday Sermon that concerns many parents nowadays. He said, most people currently have the same question that why doesn’t my child listen to me? Everyone seems to be complaining about their children in their own ways. In some cases, this disobedience has reached the level of rudeness. There are several reasons for this ― growing age, societal influences, and the effects of social media. What is the solution? We need to try to understand it. In many households, mothers portray fathers as villains in front of their children. This is a very harmful act, with serious consequences. We need to bring change within ourselves. Avoid constant scolding. Don’t raise your own blood pressure. Create a friendly environment with your children. If they say something, listen to them carefully. Don’t respond immediately. Make them feel that you will consider it and reply later. The next day, mention that matter, explain its disadvantages in detail, and tell them, If you still want to do it, talk to your mother again and then decide. Leave it at that. This kind of conversation might lead them to agree with your opinion. If you cut them off immediately, it would only increase their disobedience. Parents must make sacrifices. Sometimes, agreeing to their requests may result in losses. That’s okay. Sit with the child, discuss the loss, and guide them for the future. Praise them when they do something good. If possible, give them small rewards. Create a friendly atmosphere. This will also bring you peace of mind. Make them feel that they are now grown up and can differentiate between right and wrong. Guide them toward self-dependency. If we bring changes within ourselves, children will also change, InShaAllah.
