Aligarh. The selection process in the Department of Sanskrit in AMU came to a sudden halt when it was cancelled on the very day it was convened for. Earlier, the selection process in Department of Philosophy was cancelled in a similar manner, due to which the candidates who had come from far off places had to face a lot of trouble. The Selection Committee in Sanskrit was to be held on 24 December but was cancelled at the last moment on the very day it was convened on. The reason for cancellation was said to be improper scrutiny of the forms received in the applications.
This is the first time that AMU has given a concrete reason for cancelling or postposing a selection process. Whereas just a few days ago, following the established convention no reason was given by the University for cancelling the selection process of Philosophy. A rumour is afloat on the campus that the process was cancellation for Sanskrit under the pressure of an Assistant Professor working in temporary capacity, controlling the Purvanchal faction among the students. MIC PRO said that the scrutiny of the forms received in the application was not done properly. That is why it has been cancelled. It is better than selecting a wrong person. Only the deserving should be selected.
However, when the MIC Public Relations Officer was asked why the reason has been specified for Sanskrit, the MIC proclaimed that the reason having been provided is good. But when accosted why it was not done for Philosophy the MIC assured that reasons will always be provided in future. However, the campus expressed surprise and feel it will not take place despite the promise.
