Grand Inauguration of the 5th Himalayan Indian Ocean Region Nations International Conference


New Delhi,The 5th International Conference of the Himalayan Indian Ocean Region Nations (HHRS) was grandly inaugurated under the joint aegis of the National Security Awakening Forum, Hansraj College (University of Delhi), Himalayan Studies, and the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (Jamia Millia Islamia).
The primary objective of this conference is to strengthen historical, cultural, economic, and political ties between India and the Southeast Asian nations. During the inaugural session, Dr. Indresh Kumar, National Executive Member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Chief Patron of the National Security Awakening Forum, stated that India values character above knowledge and science. Character is the foundation of culture, and true societal transformation begins with self-improvement.


He emphasized that India has always been a nation guided by culture and values, where character and righteousness hold supreme importance. He further stated that the highest form of humanity lies in living for others and serving them. India is a nation dedicated to the welfare of the entire society and upholds non-violence as the ultimate duty. Therefore, India has been, is, and will continue to be a “Vishwaguru” (world leader).


Conference Inauguration and Key Insights
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the felicitation of guests. Chief Guest, Shri Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, congratulated the organizers Shri Golok Bihari Rai and Shri Vikramaditya Singh for successfully organizing this significant event. He remarked that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is progressing rapidly and has solidified its position on the global stage.
He further highlighted that the world now takes India seriously and prioritizes its opinions on crucial global matters.


Uniqueness of Indian Culture: Prof. Mazhar Asif
In his presidential address, Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, elaborated on the diversity and inclusivity of Indian culture. He underscored the significance of Indian philosophical principles such as ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The world is one family) and ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ (May all be happy), which form the foundation of social harmony and global unity.
He emphasized that India is a nation that respects diverse cultures and traditions, and this inclusivity has kept it united for centuries. His thought-provoking address not only inspired scholars and students present at the conference but also highlighted the global acceptance of India’s cultural heritage.
Key Insights from Other Eminent Speakers
Lieutenant General (Retd) R.N. Singh, in his speech, asserted that serving the nation is paramount, and every citizen should remain committed to their motherland. He expressed concern over the growing trend of people prioritizing settling abroad, emphasizing that the warmth, uniqueness, and cultural richness of India cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Senior journalist Harshvardhan Tripathi highlighted India’s significant contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing how the world recognized the effectiveness of India’s traditional medicines and healing practices. He pointed out that India’s ancient medical knowledge has made a remarkable impact on global healthcare, bringing greater recognition to its cultural and scientific heritage.


Contribution of the National Security Awakening Forum & HHRS
Shri Vikramaditya Singh, National Co-Organizing Secretary of the National Security Awakening Forum, provided a detailed overview of the organization and its objectives. He stressed that for India to achieve self-reliance and strength, it is essential to prioritize nationalism and security.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ritesh Kumar Rai, Co-Convener of the event, elaborated on the mission and activities of the Himalayan Indian Ocean Region Nations group. He stated that this initiative plays a crucial role in reviving and strengthening the historical and cultural ties between India and Southeast Asian nations.
Technical Sessions and Research Paper Presentations
On the first day of the conference, two technical sessions were held, covering the following topics:

  1. “Historical Linkages Between India and Southeast Asia” – Chaired by Dr. Rajiv Nayan, with prominent speakers including Dr. Rajiv Ranjan, Dr. Dhrubjyoti Bhattacharjee, Dr. Jyotirupa Raut, Dr. Pum Khan Pau, and Dr. Sophna Shrichampa.
  2. “Cultural Connectivity Between India and Southeast Asia” – Chaired by Prof. Chandrachud Singh, featuring key presentations by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Prachi Agarwal, Dr. Lipi Ghosh, and Dr. Sampa Kundu.
    These sessions witnessed the presentation of 32 research papers by scholars and experts from India and abroad. The conference hosted distinguished representatives from Indonesia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Laos, Singapore, and Thailand.
    Cultural Performances and Conclusion
    The first day concluded with a special cultural program showcasing the shared cultural heritage of India and Southeast Asia. Through mesmerizing performances, the event beautifully portrayed the traditions and artistic richness of both regions.

    The conference was graced by the presence of Golok Bihari Rai, Virendra Kumar Chaudhary, Arun Kumar, Dr. M. Rahmatullah, Prof Mehrukh Mirza, Rajesh Mahajan, Prof. Radheshyam Sharma, Prof. N.P.
