ATULYA GANGA CYCLOTHON TEAM REACHES MAHAKUMBH WITH MESSAGE OF “PLASTIC FREE GANGA”

The Atulya Ganga Cyclothon-2025, 12 member cyclist team of a military veteran NGO on their fourth edition of Atulya Ganga Parikrama, arrived at Prayagraj Cantt on 31 Jan 2025. They were flagged in by Major General Rajesh Bhat, General Officer Commanding, Purva UP and MP Sub Area. The 11 Day Cyclothon, started pedalling on 21 Jan 2025 from Utttarkashi and has covered 1100+ km to reach Mahakumbh, Prayagraj with a message of people participation for “Plastic Free Ganga”.

Lt Col Malviya of 137 TA Bn (Ganga Task Force) also joined the Cyclothon by cycling from Kanpur to Prayagraj. This is Atulya Ganga’s fourth consecutive year of Ganga Parikrama or Cyclothon to advocate for rejuvenation efforts in the Ganga Basin. Lt Col Lohumi, a founding member of Atulya Ganga, expressed deep concern about issues affecting Indian rivers. He highlighted alarming levels of plastic waste contaminating the Ganga and urged citizens especially youth to actively participate in initiatives aimed at rejuvenate and preserving Maa Ganga.

Throughout their journey, members of Atulya Ganga Team conducted outreach programs across more than 20 schools and colleges, engaged with the Ganga volunteers, planted over 500 trees and inspired thousands of youth to join and support Atulya Ganga efforts for “Plastic Free Ganga”.

In the past four years Atulya Ganga team has accomplished unprecedented 5525 km Ganga walkathon, 3000 km Ganga Cyclothon and 1000 km Yamuna Cyclothon. This is the fourth edition of their Ganga effort. At the flagging in ceremony, the Atulya Ganga founder Maj Gen Vinod Bhatt announced an ambitious new initiative by Atulya Ganga Team – the commitment to eliminate all forms of plastic from Gangotri Region by 2025-26 as part of ongoing endeavours toward achieving a completely Plastic Free River system in future years.
