AGRA – Amid the growing political storm over the Rana Sanga controversy, Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav has strongly come out in support of the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Suman. On Monday, Yadav visited Suman’s residence to express solidarity, stating that he too has received threats to his life.
Speaking to the media, Akhilesh Yadav said:
“I stand with Ramji Suman. The way a Dalit MP is being targeted is deeply unfortunate. I’ve also been threatened with an assassination similar to that of Phoolan Devi. But we will not be afraid, nor will we back down.”
What is the Controversy?
The issue began when Ramji Suman made a statement about the historical figure Rana Sanga at a recent public event. Some groups took offense to his remarks, which led to widespread protests and slogans raised against the MP.
According to the Samajwadi Party, Suman’s words have been deliberately distorted, and the controversy is part of a larger conspiracy to suppress Dalit representation and voices.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Stand
Yadav labeled the entire episode as an attack on the Constitution and social justice. He emphasized that threats like these are aimed at weakening democratic values and warned that his party will not bow down under pressure.
Rising Political Tensions
Yadav’s visit comes at a time when political rhetoric around Dalit issues is intensifying in the state. The Samajwadi Party is framing the issue as one of social justice and Dalit dignity, while opposition parties argue that the controversy is rooted in disrespecting historical heritage.
