Aligarh, Ahead of the inauguration of the Aligarh Urdu Book Fair (22–30 November 2025) at the Cultural Education Centre, AMU, the Director of NCPUL, Dr. Mohammad Shams Iqbal, addressed the press and shared important details about the event.
Dr. Iqbal emphasized that the Urdu Book Fair is an essential initiative to promote book culture among readers, especially the younger generation. He announced that the fair will be inaugurated by Prof. Naima Khatoon, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of AMU.
The Guests of Honour include Padma Shri Prof. Syed Zillur Rahman and Prof. Asim Zafar, Registrar, AMU. The keynote address will be delivered by renowned fiction writer Syed Muhammad Ashraf, while Prof. Shafey Kidwai will also speak on the occasion.
Around fifty publishers from states such as Gujarat, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kashmir, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh will participate in the fair. In addition to book stalls, several literary and cultural programmes will be organised, including meet-the-author sessions, storytelling, mushairas, children’s activities, and cultural evenings tailored for diverse audiences.
Prof. Shafey Kidwai, Honorary Director, Sir Syed Academy, appreciated the initiative and stated that the fair will significantly enhance the reach of Urdu books across the country.
Prof. Mohammad Naved Khan, Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre, said that the cultural programmes being organised have a deep connection with literature and language.
The press conference was attended by officials of the Council along with several notable personalities.
