Agra,To promote awareness about newborn care and reduce neonatal mortality, the district will observe Newborn Care Week from 15 to 21 November 2025.

Dr. Arun Srivastava, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), said that the week is celebrated annually to highlight the importance of newborn care. The aim is to improve child survival rates and ensure holistic development.
He added that the district operates facility-based and community-based programs for newborns, prioritizing institutional deliveries, care in delivery rooms, specialized care for preterm or low-birth-weight babies through SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) and NBSU (Newborn Stabilization Unit), as well as community-level HBNC (Home-Based Newborn Care) programs.

Dr. Surendra Mohan Prajapati, ACMO-RCH, shared that the theme for this year’s Newborn Care Week is:
“Newborn Care: Every Touch, Every Moment, Every Child.”
Awareness programs will be organized across various medical facilities in the district in accordance with this theme.

Dr. Khushboo Kesarwani, pediatrician at the District Women’s Hospital, emphasized that the first 28 days of a newborn’s life are extremely delicate. She advised that during this period, special care is essential, including protection from infections and proper breastfeeding.
