Agra: The Basic Primary School in Baluganj, Agra, has recently taken a significant step towards development and transformation, thanks to an initiative led by the Indian Dreams Foundation (IDF) under the Public–Social Partnership model. This initiative has transformed the school into a safe, respectful, and child-centered learning environment.
Previously challenged by limited resources and a dilapidated infrastructure, the school now boasts well-laid red stone flooring, clean drinking water, functional toilets, fully equipped furniture, and vibrant, inspiring classrooms. Newly constructed activity and learning rooms have been designed to enhance creativity, self-expression, and collaborative learning among children.
The initiative was spearheaded by IDF founder Puneet Asthana and social change advocate Jyoti Singh, who ensured continuous dialogue and engagement with parents, teachers, and community representatives, fostering a culture of inclusion, sensitivity, and shared responsibility within the school.
During the event, students were provided with educational materials, and a dialogue session on “The Role of Community in Strengthening Government Schools” was conducted. Puneet Asthana remarked,
“When the community, institution, and administration move forward together, change reflects not only in infrastructure but also in social mindset.”
Parents shared that the school’s transformation has led to significant improvements in student attendance, confidence, and continuity, especially among girls. The school has become not only a center for learning but also a symbol of community engagement and shared responsibility.
To date, IDF has transformed 5 government schools, constructed or upgraded 13 toilets, and ensures improved educational facilities for over 1,500 students annually. Libraries, digital classrooms, and activity-based learning models have also been successfully implemented across schools.
Jyoti Singh emphasized,
“This initiative is not the end of a project but the beginning of a sustained journey towards equality and dignity in education.”
The program was graced by Block Education Officer Mr. Sumit Kumar and Mr. Pankaj Upadhyay from the Education Department. More than 200 parents, students, community members, and local representatives actively participated. IDF team members — Aftab, Anjali, Roshni, Lalita — along with school teacher Ms. Dahim, played key roles in planning and organizing the event.
This initiative is a vibrant, inspiring, and practical example of inclusive development, embodying the philosophy that development should begin with the last child.
