Agra: The khateeb of Nahar Wali Mosque in Sikandra, Mohammad Iqbal, highlighted the importance of the Holy Qur’an during the month of Ramadan while delivering the Friday sermon. He said that Ramadan is a month to remember Allah more and to strengthen one’s connection with His book. He emphasized that the best act in this sacred month is to recite the Holy Qur’an as much as possible.
Addressing the congregation, he asked whether they had ever felt their bodies tremble, their hairs stand on end, or tears flow from their eyes while reading or listening to the Qur’an. He urged people to seriously reflect on where the shortcoming lies if such feelings are absent.
Quoting a verse from the Qur’an, Mohammad Iqbal said that true believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and whose faith increases when His verses are recited to them (Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 2). He further noted that the Qur’an also warns that one day people will be asked how much connection they maintained with the Holy Book (Surah Az-Zukhruf).
He explained that many people do not understand the original language of the Qur’an, which is why its message does not fully impact their hearts. Therefore, he advised that people should read the Qur’an with translation in a language they understand so they can better comprehend its message.
He also pointed out that Ramadan has a deep connection with the Qur’an, as it was revealed in a blessed night known as Laylat al-Qadr during this holy month. Muslims, therefore, should establish a special bond with the Qur’an during Ramadan and increase their recitation.
The khateeb said that Allah revealed the Qur’an as guidance for all humanity, not only for Muslims. The more a person reflects upon it, the more benefit he or she will gain.
Expressing concern, he said that today many people have not honored the Qur’an as it deserves. Instead, it is often limited to recitation for the sake of the deceased, whereas it was revealed to guide the lives of the living.
In conclusion, he reminded the congregation that one day everyone will stand before their Creator and be asked about their relationship with the Qur’an. He urged people to use the sacred month of Ramadan to sincerely seek forgiveness from Allah and resolve to live their lives according to His guidance.
