Agra: During his Friday sermon, Muhammad Iqbal, the Khateeb of Masjid Nehar Wali, reminded worshippers about the Hereafter and spoke about the reality of worldly life, human pride and negligence.
He narrated an incident involving a person who attended a funeral. At the time of burial, he noticed a grave carrying the words: “I was important, that was my illusion.” The words made him stop for a few moments and reflect.
Muhammad Iqbal said that people often consider themselves important because of their position, wealth, fame, status or social media followers. However, after death, the reality of worldly life becomes clear.
He said the Holy Quran reminds people that worldly life is temporary and can become a source of pride and distraction. The pursuit of wealth and status can make a person forget the Hereafter.
He emphasized that neither position, wealth nor fame will accompany a person into the grave; what matters are piety and good deeds.
He said, “We often think that our office, shop, factory or institution cannot function without us. But once we are buried, the world continues moving in exactly the same way.”
He further said, “A person is not truly important because he is famous among people; true importance lies in being accepted by Allah.”
Quoting a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he said that Allah does not judge people by their appearance or wealth, but by their hearts and deeds.
Muhammad Iqbal urged people to come out of negligence and the illusion of worldly importance and strive for the pleasure of Allah, righteousness and good deeds, because true success lies in success in the Hereafter.
