Seek Immediate Intervention on Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University and Key National Issues
Report: S. Munir | Aligarh
Rashtriya Muslim Morcha and Bharat Mukti Morcha jointly staged a protest at the Aligarh Collectorate on Tuesday and submitted a 13-point memorandum addressed to the President of India through the district administration. A large number of party workers, social activists, and representatives of various organizations participated in the demonstration.
The organizations stated that the memorandum is not confined to the concerns of any one community or a single issue but seeks the protection of constitutional values, democratic principles, religious freedom, social justice, and equal rights for all citizens.
According to the memorandum, the current social and political situation has raised important concerns regarding the Constitution, communal harmony, religious liberty, and equality before the law. The organizations urged the President, as the constitutional head of the nation, to take serious note of these issues and direct the concerned authorities to safeguard the fundamental rights of every citizen without discrimination.
Rashtriya Muslim Morcha Aligarh General Secretary Engineer Mohammad Rahat Sultan said the primary demand in the memorandum is the immediate withdrawal of the notice issued for the demolition of 38 buildings of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. He argued that any dispute involving an educational institution should be resolved strictly through legal and judicial procedures rather than demolition, as the future of thousands of students is linked to the university.
He further stated that the university buildings were constructed when the area was allegedly outside the jurisdiction of the Rampur Development Authority, and therefore all legal aspects of the matter should be examined impartially before any action is taken.
The memorandum also calls for a review of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. It urges the government to uphold the constitutional guarantees of religious freedom under Articles 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 of the Constitution.
The organizations demanded impartial investigations into incidents of mob violence and cases related to allegations of cow slaughter, strict legal action against those found guilty, and timely justice for victims’ families. They also appealed for transparent reviews of cases involving Muslim youth, Islamic scholars, and religious figures who, they claimed, have been imprisoned on suspicion or in allegedly false cases.
The memorandum further sought the enactment of a Communal Violence Prevention Act, strict implementation of the Places of Worship Act, 1991, preservation of the religious character of places of worship as it existed on August 15, 1947, removal of religion-based restrictions under Article 341(3) of the Constitution, a nationwide caste census, and proportional representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and minority communities.
Other demands include strict legal action against those accused of making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) or insulting leaders of any religion or community, implementation of the recommendations of the Gopal Singh, Sachar, Mishra, and Kundu Commissions, and effective action against individuals promoting hatred and violence in the name of religion or caste.
Engineer Mohammad Rahat Sultan said that the Constitution guarantees equality, justice, and religious freedom to every citizen and stressed that these principles must be implemented sincerely. He expressed hope that the President would examine the memorandum carefully and issue appropriate directions to the concerned authorities to strengthen the rule of law, democratic values, social justice, and national unity.
Among those present while submitting the memorandum were Pradeep Advocate, Mohammad Hamid, Ravi Diwakar, Engineer Mohammad Rahat Sultan, Madan Kashyap, Azhar Alam, B.D. Naqvi, Mansoor Atta, Satya Prakash, and Mufti Mohammad Akbar Qasmi, Working Committee Member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (Western Uttar Pradesh), along with representatives of several social, religious, and public organizations.
