‘Urges Relief & Rehabilitation Department to wake up and act’
Jammu- State Executive Member and State Co-Convenor, Department of Trainings, BJP Jammu Kashmir, Shri Chetan Wanchoo, distributed sports kits among girls of Jagti Township at a programme organised by Vice President BJP KDD Smt. Dolly Ji, aimed at encouraging young girls to take up sports and utilise their talent in a positive and constructive manner.
Mandal President Shri Pyare Lal Pandita along with other Mandal office-bearers was also present on the occasion.
Interacting with the residents and young girls, Wanchoo was apprised of the serious shortage of proper sports infrastructure in Jagti Township. Residents pointed out that despite having a large population of children and youth, the township lacks adequate space and facilities for sports such as badminton, volleyball, tennis and other outdoor games.
Wanchoo said that Jagti has no shortage of talent or enthusiasm among its children; what is missing is the infrastructure and institutional support required to convert that talent into achievement.
He said, “We can distribute sports kits, but unless children have proper playgrounds and safe, usable spaces to play, their talent will remain confined to their homes and streets. The children of Jagti deserve proper sporting facilities and equal opportunities.”
During the interaction, residents expressed their disappointment over the condition of parks in the township and alleged that they have repeatedly approached officials of the Relief & Rehabilitation Department regarding renovation and maintenance of parks and development of sports facilities, but their grievances have continued to remain unresolved.
Taking serious note of the issue, Wanchoo said that the condition of public parks in Jagti reflects the need for greater accountability on the part of the concerned department.
“The residents say they have approached the Relief & Rehabilitation Department repeatedly, but one office sends them to another and the issue remains where it was. This cannot be the approach towards people who have already faced decades of displacement and hardship,” Wanchoo said.
He further stated that several parks in Jagti Township are reportedly in poor condition and require immediate attention, adding that children and youth should not be deprived of basic recreational and sporting facilities because of administrative neglect.
“The department cannot remain a silent spectator while the parks and common spaces of Jagti deteriorate. Officers must visit the township, see the situation on the ground and understand the problems of the residents instead of dealing with their grievances only through files and offices,” he said.
Wanchoo demanded an immediate joint inspection of all parks and available open spaces in Jagti Township, followed by a time-bound action plan for their renovation, maintenance and development. He also urged the authorities to identify suitable space for dedicated sports facilities for children and youth, particularly for girls.
Wanchoo appreciated Smt. Dolly Ji for organising the initiative and said that such community-driven efforts should be encouraged. He expressed hope that the distribution of sports kits would motivate more girls of Jagti to participate in sports.
On the occasion, Bhagavad Gita copies were also distributed among the children, encouraging them to read at least one shloka every day, understand its meaning, and incorporate its teachings and values into their daily lives. The aim is to inspire the younger generation to connect with our rich spiritual heritage and apply the timeless wisdom of the Gita in their thoughts, actions, and conduct.
