Bhopal : Mohammad Umar Qasmi, Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, has submitted a memorandum to the President of India and the Prime Minister of India, urging the Central Government to declare the cow as the National Animal of India. He stated that the cow has long been a cornerstone of India’s culture, traditions, and rural economy, and that its protection and promotion should be treated as a national priority.
In his memorandum, Qasmi highlighted that the cow has enjoyed a place of great respect in Indian society since ancient times. He emphasized its vital contribution to agriculture, dairy production, and organic farming. Milk and dairy products such as curd and ghee are essential sources of nutrition, while cow dung is widely used as organic manure, for bio-energy generation, and for several other productive purposes.
He further stated that the cow is regarded as a motherly symbol in Indian culture and occupies a special place in various religious and social traditions. Considering its cultural, economic, and social significance, he urged the Government of India to officially recognize the cow as the country’s National Animal.
Mohammad Umar Qasmi appealed to the Central Government to give serious consideration to this demand and take the necessary decision. He said that declaring the cow as the National Animal would strengthen efforts towards its protection and conservation while also promoting greater public awareness and respect for its importance.
Expressing hope for a positive response, Qasmi said that the Central Government should take an appropriate decision on this important issue in view of India’s rich cultural heritage and the crucial role of the rural economy.
