Aligarh.There is rumour spreading rapidly on the AMU campus that a teacher of the Department of English is to become the next Principal, Women’s College. It is learnt the present Principal is to superannuate on September 16, 2026 and a new Principal is to be appointed as mandated by the rules of the University. The rumour is gaining credibility since no appointment order for the post has been issued so far. The delay in issue raises concern as to who is to be appointed the Principal, and why is it a guarded secret.
The Principal, prior to the present, vacated the post on April 22, 2024, more than two years ago. The present incumbent being the senior most teaching staff in the College, in accordance with the established practice, took over as a temporary Principal. The College holds a very special position in the University, since it empowers the girls and so a crucial institution.
The Women’s College is not a integral part of the establishment but a maintained institution under the AMU and the Principal is to be appointed through a national advertisement, to attract as many candidates as possible and select the best suited for the task. The exercise is undertaken to provide the Women’s College a Principal who would help its growth. The teachers of the University have been grumbling over the fact that the University made no effort for more than two years to appoint a permanent Principal, which has led to the present uncertainties breeding strange rumours, including the unseen influence of a particular very large national organisation. The organisation been influencing appointments of the teachers and high officers of the University. The teachers of the University are worried about the Women’s College that educates and empowers women in life and are hoping the College does not fall into the wrong hands.
The teachers of the University are unanimous in the view that till a permanent appointment is made on the post of the Principal, the establish practice should be continued of appointing the senior most teacher as a temporary Principal, to ensure no damage takes place to the ethos and standards of the College.
