New Delhi :In a historic development set to redefine the future of Indian sports, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has announced the grand return of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL). After a successful last season in 2019, the much-awaited Pro Wrestling League 2026 is poised to make a dynamic comeback, beginning mid-January 2026.
Backed by a visionary public-private partnership model, the league aims to create a global platform for Indian wrestlers, strengthen India’s Olympic aspirations, and empower women athletes—the ‘Matri Shakti’—within the wrestling fraternity.
Speaking at the event, Guest of Honour Shri Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh emphasized the cultural and emotional significance of wrestling in India.
“Wrestling is not just a sport in India—it is our legacy, rooted in our soil and culture,” he said. “The Pro Wrestling League’s return will give our young wrestlers the stage they deserve, taking them from local Akhadas to international arenas. This initiative will ensure India’s wrestling heritage finds a powerful global voice.”
WFI President Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh highlighted how the league will mirror the success story of the IPL by nurturing grassroots talent.
“The IPL revolutionized Indian cricket; we aim to do the same for wrestling. The PWL 2026 will serve as the training ground for our next generation of Olympic and international medalists,” he stated. “It will also focus on empowering women wrestlers, ensuring equal opportunities, visibility, and investment in their growth.”
The inaugural season of the revamped Pro Wrestling League 2026 promises to be a landmark event, with detailed schedules, franchise announcements, and the lineup of international stars to be revealed soon.
The announcement marks not just the revival of a league, but the beginning of a bold new chapter for Indian wrestling—celebrating strength, strategy, and the indomitable spirit of the nation’s athletes.
