Sufi Institutions and Dargahs Unite as a Collective National Voice to Promote Peace
New Delhi, Ahead of a press meet held at the India Islamic Centre, a high-level delegation of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The delegation was led by Hazrat Syed Naseruddin Chishty, President of AISSC and the spiritual successor of the Ajmer Dargah. Prominent Sajjadanashins from major dargahs across the country were part of the delegation.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the historic and spiritual role of Sufism in strengthening national unity, peace, and patriotism in India. The delegation emphasized that the Sufi tradition has consistently reinforced India’s composite Ganga-Jamuni culture through its message of love, tolerance, and humanity. Even today, Sufism offers a positive, nationally rooted alternative to counter extremism and divisive ideologies.

Subsequently, a press meet on the theme “Promoting Peace in the Nation” was organized, highlighting the centuries-old Sufi message of harmony, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
Addressing the media, Hazrat Syed Naseruddin Chishty stated that in the present socio-cultural climate, safeguarding peace and unity is a shared responsibility of religious leadership, civil society, the media, and citizens at large.
He announced a nationwide awareness campaign under the slogan “My Nation, My Identity.” The campaign aims to strengthen national integration and firmly counter extremist and divisive forces seeking to destabilize the country. Under this initiative, the Council will visit every state and major city to spread the message of peace, brotherhood, and constitutional values.
Hazrat Chishty emphasized that Sufi communities and dargahs have played a vital role for centuries in nurturing social harmony and mutual coexistence in India. He described the inauguration of the Delhi headquarters of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council as a historic step toward creating a unified national voice for Sufi institutions and dargahs. This initiative, he said, will help present the true, peaceful, and humanitarian face of Islam at the national level.
He further noted that India is respected today across the Muslim world, which reflects the country’s commitment to equal respect and dignity for all religions and communities. This global respect, he said, is a strong rebuttal to those who repeatedly attempt to malign India and damage its international image.
More than 25 prominent Sajjadanashins and Sufi scholars from across the country participated in the press meet. Notable attendees included:
- Syed Farid Ahmad Nizami — Dargah Nizamuddin
- Ali Shah — Kaleer Sharif
- Nayyar Mian — Radauli Sharif, Uttar Pradesh
- Dr. Habibur Rahman Niyazi — Jaipur

- Arshad Faridi — Fatehpur Sikri
- Syed Ali Zaki Hussaini — Gulbarga Dargah
- Syed Abdul Qadir Qadri — National Coordinator, AISSC
