Congress leader speaks during the 219th edition of the weekly “Speak Up” program
New Delhi: Congress National Secretary Shahnawaz Alam has claimed that once the NDA loses power in Bihar, the Modi government at the Centre will also be reduced to a minority. He said that the people of Bihar have a historic opportunity to change two anti-people governments with a single vote, and they will not let it go to waste.
Speaking during the 219th edition of the weekly “Speak Up” program, Alam said that the BJP has been secretly breaking the JD(U) from within, which has created deep resentment among its backward, Dalit MLAs and grassroots workers. “If the NDA loses in Bihar, the internal conflict within JD(U) will intensify, and as a result, the 240-seat Modi government will lose its majority,” he asserted.
Alam further alleged that if the BJP returns to power, it will attempt to carve out a Union Territory from parts of Seemanchal and West Bengal, thereby diminishing the political voice of people in these regions — similar to what was done in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that to preserve Bihar’s political identity and dignity, ousting the NDA from power is essential.
The Congress leader also stated that the INDIA alliance has resolved to appoint a Muslim Deputy Chief Minister if it forms the government in Bihar. “This decision will make future secular governments in other states more inclusive and representative, strengthening the political empowerment of Muslims,” he added.
Alam said that the INDIA bloc’s promise to introduce a law protecting Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) from targeted violence would be a milestone in their social and political empowerment. “Just as the Rajiv Gandhi government enacted laws to protect Dalits from caste-based violence, a similar framework for EBCs — and later for minorities — will ensure justice and security for all marginalized groups,” he concluded.
