Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Mr. Nizamuddin Khan, State President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Uttar Pradesh, has expressed serious concern over the demolition proceedings initiated by the Rampur Development Authority against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, describing the action as politically motivated.
He stated that the action against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University is being taken solely because the institution is associated with senior political leader Azam Khan. If there are any technical or administrative objections regarding the building plans or construction, the government has the legal provision to regularize the structures by collecting compounding fees and imposing the prescribed penalties. Demolition should be the last resort, not the first.
Mr. Nizamuddin Khan further said that demolishing the buildings of an educational institution, where the future of thousands of students is at stake, is neither in the interest of education nor society. If there are any irregularities, they should be addressed through due legal process rather than by destroying a temple of learning.
He also pointed out that there are thousands of multi-storey buildings across Uttar Pradesh whose building plans have not been approved or which suffer from various construction-related irregularities. If the government’s objective is genuinely to enforce the law uniformly, will it also order bulldozer action against all such buildings? The law must be applied equally to everyone and should not be used to selectively target any individual or institution.
SDPI Uttar Pradesh has urged the Allahabad High Court to take suo motu cognizance of the matter and immediately stay the demolition proceedings initiated by the Rampur Development Authority against the buildings of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, so that the issue can be resolved through a fair and impartial judicial process.
