Agra. Doctors at SN Medical College have once again demonstrated their expertise by restoring vision to a patient suffering from blindness using advanced medical technology. A 50-year-old woman regained her eyesight after a successful corneal transplant using tissue donated by an 81-year-old donor.

Benefit of DALK Technique
According to doctors, the inner layers of the donor’s cornea were not suitable due to age. Therefore, an advanced procedure called Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) was performed. In this technique, instead of replacing the entire cornea, only the outer layer (stroma) is transplanted. After the surgery, the patient was able to see again and was discharged on Monday.
Loss of Vision Due to Injury
About a year ago, the woman had suffered an injury to her left eye, which caused a wound. Although the wound healed after treatment at private hospitals, she lost her vision in that eye. Later, she registered at SN Medical College for a corneal transplant.
Eye Donation Gave New Life
Eye Bank in-charge Dr. Shefali Majumdar stated that after the death of the 81-year-old donor, the family consented to eye donation. Due to the donor’s advanced age, only the outer layer of the cornea was usable. Since the patient’s inner corneal layer was healthy, the surgery proved successful.
One-Hour Surgery, Big Success
The complex surgery lasted about an hour and was carried out by a team of specialists. This technique allows one cornea to be used for multiple patients, making it a significant advancement in medical science.
Successful ENT Surgery as Well
In another case, the ENT department successfully treated a 35-year-old woman suffering from CSF rhinorrhea (leakage of cerebrospinal fluid from the nose). Using Endoscopic Surgery, doctors repaired a bone defect through the nasal route without opening the skull. The leakage stopped after surgery, and the patient was discharged.
Team Appreciated
Principal Dr. Prashant Gupta praised the team for their successful handling of complex surgeries. The team included Dr. Soumyata Neeraj, Dr. Rohini, Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, and anesthesia specialists Dr. Arpita, Dr. Pallika, Dr. Kajal, and Dr. Anubhav.
👉 This achievement highlights not only the effectiveness of modern medical techniques but also the importance of eye donation, which can help restore vision and transform lives.
