Children recover well after successful removal of large chest wall tumor, pheochromocytoma and lymphatic malformations
Agra, August 21, 2026: The Department of Pediatric Surgery at Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SN Medical College), Agra, has successfully performed three complex and challenging pediatric surgeries in recent days, giving a new lease of life to three young patients.
The surgeries were led by Professor Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Department of Pediatric Surgery. According to doctors, all three cases were challenging because of the young age of the patients, the nature of the diseases and the size and location of the lesions.
Over 1-kg chest wall tumor removed from 8-year-old girl
In the first case, an 8-year-old girl had a large myofibroma in the chest wall measuring approximately 12×10 cm and weighing more than one kilogram.
The tumor was closely associated with surrounding muscles and blood vessels, making the surgery particularly challenging due to the risk of bleeding. An advanced Harmonic Scalpel was used during the procedure to facilitate tissue dissection and seal blood vessels, thereby minimizing blood loss.
The tumor was completely removed, and the child made a satisfactory recovery before being discharged from the hospital in a healthy condition.
6×5 cm pheochromocytoma successfully removed from 10-year-old boy
In the second case, a 10-year-old boy was diagnosed with a 6×5 cm pheochromocytoma, a rare neuroendocrine tumor in children that can cause excessive secretion of catecholamines.
Such surgeries carry a risk of sudden and severe fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate. The child therefore underwent appropriate preoperative medical preparation and optimization, followed by specialized anesthesia and close monitoring during surgery.
The tumor was successfully removed through careful surgical dissection. The child remained stable during postoperative monitoring and was discharged after a satisfactory recovery.
Large lymphatic malformations treated in 8-month-old infant
In the third case, an 8-month-old infant had large lymphatic malformations involving the chest wall and the submandibular region.
Because of their extensive involvement, the surgery was particularly challenging. In the submandibular region, special care was required to protect important nerves, blood vessels and surrounding structures.
Through meticulous surgical dissection, the large lymphatic malformations were successfully removed. The infant recovered well after surgery and was discharged in a healthy condition.
Advanced pediatric surgical care at SN Medical College
Professor Dr. Rajesh Gupta said that timely diagnosis, appropriate preoperative planning and coordinated efforts by an experienced multidisciplinary team can make the treatment of complex pediatric surgical conditions safe and effective.
SN Medical College Principal Dr. Prashant Gupta appreciated the achievement of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and said that the successful completion of such complex procedures reflects the expertise of the medical team and the advanced healthcare facilities available at the institution.
The successful recovery and discharge of all three children is a major relief for their families and marks an important achievement for advanced pediatric surgical services at SN Medical College, Agra.
