Agra: Khateeb of Masjid Nahar Wali, Sikandra, Mohammad Iqbal, while delivering the Friday sermon, said that the Holy Quran has already given humanity the greatest “breaking news” by informing people about the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah) and urging them to prepare for it. He said there could be no greater news for mankind than the certainty of the Hereafter.
He explained that the word “Qiyamah” is mentioned around 70 times in the Holy Quran. In addition, the Day of Judgment is referred to by several other names, including As-Sa’ah, Yawm ad-Din, Yawm al-Fasl, Yawm al-Ba’th, Yawm al-Khuruj, Yawm al-Jam’, Yawm al-Hisab, At-Tammah al-Kubra, Al-Waqi’ah, Al-Haqqah, and Al-Qari’ah, bringing the total references to approximately 250 mentions. This, he said, highlights its immense importance.
Mohammad Iqbal said the Quran portrays the scenes of the Day of Judgment so vividly that it feels as though the reader is witnessing them firsthand. People will be occupied with their normal lives—at home, in marketplaces, or in gatherings—completely unaware that the world is about to come to an end.
He added that the Quran makes it clear that this worldly life is temporary and destined to perish. The signs of the Day of Judgment mentioned in the Quran serve as “alarms” for humanity. He further stated that the advent of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was itself one of the major signs that the Day of Judgment had drawn near. Nearly fifteen centuries have passed since then, yet the exact time of the Final Hour remains known only to Allah.
The Khateeb emphasized that belief in the Day of Judgment is one of the fundamental pillars of Islamic faith. The Quran repeatedly reminds believers of the Hereafter so that they do not become heedless in worldly life, as it is their deeds in this life that will determine their eternal destination in the next.
Concluding his sermon, Mohammad Iqbal urged people to reflect seriously on this greatest message of the Quran, evaluate their lives, and prepare for the Hereafter. He said that no new revelation will come and Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) will not descend again with new messages. The Holy Quran is already with us, and it is our responsibility to study it, reflect upon its teachings, and act accordingly.
