Engineer Mohammad Rahat Sultan, General Secretary of the Rashtriya Muslim Morcha, Aligarh, has announced a nationwide peaceful protest to be held on July 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the District Collectorates in 625 districts across India in support of a 13-point charter of demands.
According to Rahat Sultan, the protest is not limited to any one community or organization but is intended to represent the voices of citizens who believe in protecting the Constitution, justice, equality, and fundamental rights. He said that recent developments have created a sense of insecurity among sections of society, making it important for people to express their concerns through democratic and peaceful means.
The 13-point charter includes demands such as halting the proposed demolition action against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, withdrawing laws that the organizers consider inconsistent with the Constitution, ensuring full implementation of constitutional provisions relating to religious freedom, taking strict action against mob lynching and hate-related violence, releasing those described by the organizers as innocent Muslim youths and religious scholars, enforcing the Places of Worship Act, 1991, ensuring compliance with Supreme Court directions regarding demolition actions, providing proportional representation to SCs, STs, OBCs, and minorities, implementing the recommendations of the Gopal Singh, Sachar, Mishra, and Kundu Commissions, and taking action against organizations accused of spreading hatred.
Rahat Sultan said the demands are aimed at strengthening the constitutional principles of justice, equality, and religious freedom rather than promoting hostility against any community. He emphasized that expressing dissent peacefully is a constitutional right in a democratic society.
He appealed to Muslims, SC, ST, OBC, minority communities, religious scholars, Imams, social workers, youth, and all justice-loving citizens to participate in large numbers and make the peaceful protest a success.
Expressing confidence in the initiative, Rahat Sultan said the July 21 demonstrations would serve as a strong expression of commitment to constitutional values, justice, equality, and communal harmony, while urging the government to give serious consideration to the concerns and demands raised by the protesters.
